Genesis Systems is a Finalist at the USAF AFWERX Energy Showcase

Genesis Systems Finalist

Posted: January 21, 2021

Tampa, FL January 19, 2021 – AFWERX, the catalyst for fostering innovation within the U.S. Air Force, announced Genesis Systems, LLC as one of the 179 participating teams selected from across the globe competing to Reimagining Energy for the DoD.

The AFWERX Challenge is centered around six topics – Fixed and Mobile Energy Generation, Energy Transmission and Distribution, Fixed and Mobile Energy Storage, New Warfighting and Operational Equipment, Data Availability for Improved Planning and Decision Making, and Energy Culture, Policy, and Education. The proposals selected to advance represent the innovative solutions that allow more effective warfighting and humanitarian missions less reliant on fossil fuels.

Genesis Systems, LLC, located in Tampa, FL, is competing in the New Warfighting and Operational Equipment alongside a select group – originating from the vast regions of North America, Europe, Australia and allied countries who represent entrepreneurial startups, small businesses, large enterprises, academic institutions and research labs with the vision and wherewithal to “Reimagine Energy” for the Department of Defense.

“The AFWERX Reimagining Energy for the DoD Challenge is critical to our mission of increasing collaboration between large businesses and entrepreneurs to accelerate solutions for the Air Force,” stated Mark Rowland of AFWERX. “On behalf of AFWERX and the Department of Defense, we congratulate the teams that are advancing to the next phase. Their contributions are invaluable and have the potential to create game-changing results across the Air Force…”

The New Warfighting and Operational Equipment Challenge strives to radically reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and create non-fossil fueled vehicles and equipment. The Department of Defense (DoD) consumes large amounts of operational and facility energy to provide a combat-credible force. The DoD is one of the largest single consumers of energy globally, and the Air Force is the largest user of fuel energy in the US Government. The way we generate, transmit, store, and use this enormous amount of energy today is both a paramount combat enabler and a potentially crippling vulnerability.

As a global water technology leader, Genesis Systems’ focuses on reducing the energy burden needed to produce mass water at the lowest cost on earth in demanding, contaminated, or otherwise water-scarce environments. Genesis Systems’ Aqua-GEN® units will be available in portable systems (20- or 40-foot ISO containers) or a fixed site installations. Genesis’ portable units are designed to produce up to 5,000 gallons of water per day and are stackable to scale up water production. Fixed site water systems are built to customer needs and can support any volume of freshwater creation up to ten million gallons (10,000,000) gallons per day. Cost estimates indicate Genesis’ patented technologies could save the DoD more than 90 percent over current water costs during theater operations. The DoD currently spends more than 30 percent of its Operations and Maintenance (O&M) budget on water and fuel (energy).

The ability of Genesis to help save scarce resources by taking water production to into a new paradigm will eliminate a significant logistical burden. Globally water scarcity is becoming a significant economic and security issue. In a conversation Tuesday Ambassador R. James Woolsey, 16th Director of Central Intelligence and Board Member at Genesis, noted to a key Ambassador in a nation facing critical water shortages: “As nations increasingly experience fundamental disruption and strife over water, we believe that the nations who become early adopters of Genesis Systems’ technology can take water off the list of problems their nations need to solve becoming leaders and peacemakers to those nations who need water.” Genesis is engaging internationally in anticipation of launching products in 2021 or early 2022. The first water projects using the technology will be announced in 2021. To learn more about the Reimagining Energy for the DoD Challenges, click here
